The Woodstock Dairy Co. Ltd was formed in December 1916 and operated under that name until sometime in 1931 - 1932. At that time it was "merged" with Silverwoods Dairies and continued to operate for several more years. I don't know when it was eventually closed. In 1927 they employed 12 people. In 1927 there was a profile of the business in the local paper, I love this quote from the article "Being of such a high standard we take no small credit of the excellent health and decreasing death rate in our city" The original building still exists and is currently a Pizza Pizza outlet. The dairy processing plant which was located a couple of city blocks from the store front/office was torn down some time ago.
At the time when the plant became a Silverwoods outlet the official line was that this was a merger, not a sale or a takeover. I thought that was interesting that even in those days people were concerned that a local business was being taken over by a larger regional companies so they tried to soften the message by calling it a merger. There was a letter to the editor of the local paper a couple of months before the official announcement that the rumours of a takeover/sale were idle rumours and unfounded.
